19 Mayıs - History

It has been found from the archaeological excavations made around Dağköy and Yörükler towns in 19 Mayıs district that there were settlements belonging to the years B.C. The tomb which was discovered in Dağköy, 6 km away from the district, is supposed to belong to 47 B.C. The other one which was found in Yörükler town is supposed to belong to the Romans and The Genovese periods. The territory of the district which had been used for settlement since B.C. became under the Ottoman's dominion in the reign of Çelebi Mehmet.

The first Turkish inhabitants were Turcoman who emigrated from the Middle East. During the 93 war (1877 - 1878) the immigrants from the Caucasian and Dagestan came to settle here. Again, after the Balkan Wars, the Ottoman Turks from Europe came to 19 Mayıs and ensconced in the villages around in 1913. The people coming through the exchange with Greece after Turkish War of Independence and coming from the East of Black Sea region and Alaçam settled here.
